
Location
Bedalov vineyard is located on slopes of hill Kozjak, on the location of Kaštela’s grove. The vineyard is situated 400 meters above sea level on an inclination of 45%. This position of south orientation provides perfect natural conditions for growing vines. Also, this environment is ideal for organic wine production because of the excellent amount of windiness and high amount of sun exposure.
Indigenous vine varieties
Main focus in Bedalov vineyard is a preservation of indigenous vine varieties from Trogir - Kaštela area. Every environment has it’s own unique climate and it’s own indigenous varieties, and they strongly believe in choosing the varieties native to the terroir. In their vineyard they grow red grape varieties: Crljenak Kaštelanski, Plavac Mali and Dobričić. From white varieties, they nurture white variety Maraština.
Organic wine
Bedalov wine are organic wines, 100% made from grapes that have been grown without the use of artificial or synthetic chemicals, such as herbicides and pesticides. The vineyard has become a self-regulating, natural ecosystem, with the ability to combat problems intrinsically and eliminates the need for artificial, and potentially toxic chemicals.
Importance of Kaštelanski Crljenak
Great importance for winery Bedalov is the restoration of Kaštelanski Crljenak grape variety. This high-quality variety became very popular in California with its name Zinfandel. Recent genetic tests confirmed that its origin came from Croatia. The Same genetic test confirmed that this variety is the same as Kaštelanski Crnjenak variety, which is indigenous to Trogir- Kaštela’s area. They have restored and expanded their vineyards with this, one of the best variety of the world and they continue to encourage planting this local variety. They believe there can be achieved a new chapter in wine production from this vine variety on it/s native environment.
